Review: Lars And The Real Girl

If ever there was a film based on Matthew’s “what you do to the least of them, you do unto me” it is the film Lars And The Real Girl. It is a remarkable film which has a powerful message about community and respect. The story is set during the winter in the north of the USA and is a strange one to describe, so bear with me. Lars orders an ‘anatomically correct’ doll over the internet who becomes his "platonic" girlfriend. I know: weird! But what happens when this doll, Bianca, is introduced to his family, church and small town community is a fascinating look at relationships, love, acceptance and hospitality. Lars communicates with Bianca, they have conversations which only he can hear and she takes on the role of girlfriend for Lars.
