Ten Months After Intervention

We no longer hear much about the Intervention that commenced last July in Northern Territory Aboriginal communities. For almost ten months it has beavered away, a change of Government making little difference, except that the CDEP work program will now be restored. A panel at the NT Writers Festival discussed outcomes and reactions. This apparently conservative group, comprising three women writers, two of them tribal elders, chaired by a local ABC sports commentator, was from four tribes. Although conceding a few good things, the panel was largely negative to the intervention, expressing the following concerns: No consultation.
