Fred Combridge House, a Churches of Christ Community home in Northcote (Vic) was awarded a "Better Practice Award" for an innovative program that reunites residents with their loved ones. It should be noted that only fourteen awards were given out Australian wide, and only one in Melbourne. In front of staff, residents, supporters (including Jillian Carson, CEO of Community Care in Victoria), Manager Jean Ferguson proudly accepted the award, thanking her staff "who go above and beyond the role of staff". That sentiment is best understood by realising that since 1998 residents of Fred Combridge House have been reunited with families as far flung as Greece and South Africa, as well as Melbourne. Jean described it as the staff's "calling". Yet it would be fair to say that the story that has caught most people's attention would be 82 year old Dimi's story. Dimi's story also encapsulates the hard working ethos of the staff at Fred Combridge House.
