Making God Real at Telopea COC (NSW)

The first time Telopea Church of Christ met in 1959, they all wore their Sunday best. Locals from the dense Department of Housing suburb peered through the windows and commented that they could never come in because they didn’t have the right clothes. In a break with tradition, those founding members decided to adopt a casual dress code with a clear message to the community – we are here to be the bridge between you and Jesus, and we will do what it takes. 25 years on, much had been learned about the needs of this isolated community of people. Whilst all need a spiritual life, these people needed a package deal! Problems included poverty, isolation, family violence, mental illness and addictions. Telopea Family Support was born in the heart of a church who wanted to do the journey across the bridge with the people of the community in a practical way.
