“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matt. 9:37). One of the apostolic era's aimswas to train and prepare the second line leadership to carry on the unfinished mission of Jesus, which is the spreading the gospel. There has always been a scarcity of workers while the harvest remained plentiful. It is also to be noted from the history of Christian missions that recruiting, training, and empowering Christian workers was crucial. The baton of the mission training passed on to Timothy has been relayed since the first century. As Paul trained Timothy, Barnabas took John Mark to be his companion. Of course, Jesus Christ is the supreme model of training disciples and commissioning them to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything…” (Matt. 28:19-20). Christian missions that failed to train are extinct whereas those who had the vision of training Timothies continue in the harvest fields.
