Who is Gideon Byamugisha?

I am aware that in my latest Q & A, I interviewed someone whose name is not familiar to many of you. To be frank, I hadn't heard of Gideon Byamugisha until a World Vision media release was sent to me. Now, having researched Gideon's story and having spoken to him one-on-one, I am glad that the AC is one of the few media outlets in this country who had a chance to speak to this brave man whose voice on fighting HIV/AIDS needs to be heard. Rev Byamugisha does not speak as an expert or an observer of HIV/AIDS. He speaks as a sufferer. A priest in Uganda's Anglican church, Byamugisha was personally touched by HIV/AIDS when his wife died from the disease in 1991. A year later, test results showed that he too had the disease. To that point, no practicing priest in Africa had acknowledged that they were HIV positive. Byamugisha became the first.
