What’s the best way to develop emerging leaders? There are many ways, and all have value… throw them into a ministry, send them to a training course, invite them to do theological study, encourage them to do a mission exposure course, recommend good books to read, etc. In 2006 in Melbourne around 25 emerging women leaders (as identified by ministers) were paired with mentors for a once a month, one hour coaching session. This involved volunteer mentors who did basic mentoring training using the GROW model. This model is “mentee focused”, and allows an emerging leader to process any issues they may be facing, and to come up with their own possible solutions.
