Eye On The Ball

As The Tasmanian Cricket Association poet, I had good reason to spend three days at Bellerive Oval watching the Pura Cup final, and putting each day’s play into verse. It was the first time that Tasmania had been sufficiently successful during the cricket season to host the Final, and a great occasion it was. Over twenty-five thousand spectators watched the match over the five days, and about ten thousand were there to watch the concluding stages, and to share in the euphoria and delight of the team as they were presented with the ultimate prize, the gold cup. But this prize, of course, was not just the reward for that one match, it was the reward for all the hard work put in by the players before the season, and the hard won matches during the year.
