Embracing My Ethnic Heritage

ust recently I took some time to reflect on a new passion that is emerging within me concerning interfaith dialogue – a topic which I am trying to develop in conjunction with Spiritual Direction as a thesis topic for a Master of Arts degree. This passion has been developing over the past 12 months, for a multitude of reasons. It hooks into my own journey very strongly, being half Lebanese by birth and having ignored it and repressed it for most of my childhood. Then, the denial was about wanting to belong and not be different. As a child I had fuzzy hair, was very tall and had bucked teeth. Those attributes were enough to contend with in the school ground without the added tag of being called a ‘wog’.
