It was going to be one of those days. We were meant to be getting ready for church but I had overslept, the children had runny noses, the paprika-covered chook legs I was supposed to be organizing for lunch had slithered down the front of my white dressing gown while I was putting them into the slow cooker…and the final disaster – I had lost the bread-maker flicking thing. Now the bread-maker flicking thing is the most important component of the bread-maker. It sits in the base of the container and ‘flicks’ as it spins, kneading the dough as the machine is running. Without it, the flour and water and yeast will not mix, and I can only imagine what sort of lumpy catastrophe would be created if it were not in situ (and I’m pretty good at imagining cooking catastrophes – it comes from real-life grounding in cooking catastrophes).
