Once is a film that defies categorization; it is musical, but not a musical. It is full of love, but it's not romantic; set against the backdrop of the working poor in affluent Dublin, it is also not a film about social justice. What I can say is that this is the best film that I have seen at the movies all year; a small indy Irish gem that, if it fails to move you, you should probably stop going to the movies. Oh, OK, I need to allow space for different tastes and not assume mine is superior. However, take my word for it, if you take the time to hunt down Once, you'll thank me for it.
