In The Valley Of Elah is about facing monsters; the monsters that war creates as well as the monsters men take home from war. Starring Tommy Lee Jones as ex military policeman Hank Deerfield, In The Valley Of Elah opens with Hank receiving a 'phone call that his son, Mike, has gone AWOL after returning from his tour of duty in Iraq. What has happened to Mike - both in Iraq and upon his return to Fort Rudd - is initially unclear. Only the grainy images of "life" in Iraq, captured on his mobile, and the pictures e-mailed to his father, give any clue of what he might have suffered and inflicted. Hank - in many respects the epitome of the patient father - goes to search for his son. "I will find him," he tells his increasingly distressed wife, Joan.
